There are many times when a person cannot afford to pay the bond that is set in a criminal case. Attorneys can sometimes help in having the amount of the bond reduced to an affordable amount. An attorney may be able to convince the court to reduce a bond if they can demonstrate that the accused does not have a significant criminal history, the accused has family or close ties in the jurisdiction, the case against him may be flawed, and/or the defendant can only afford a lesser amount. There are also many other factors that the court can consider when setting or reducing a bond.
